The Well Site 7 upgrade comes with a hefty price tag of $6.65 million but promises to tackle the pesky problem of iron and manganese contamination, filtering out these undesirable elements at a robust rate of 2,400 gallons per minute.
This latest development in San Luis' quest for cleaner water began with the drawing board in 2022 and moved into full gear during the engineering design phase in 2023 and 2024. The city didn't drag its feet, securing critical components early, including the filtration system and major electrical equipment needed for the water production well's construction. A construction contract was awarded in 2024, and crews were diligent, reaching substantial completion of the project by July 2025.
Cutting through the technical jargon, Eulogio Vera, Public Works Director, laid out the bottom line for San Luis' citizens in a statement obtained by the city's announcement, "The completion of the new water production well and manganese treatment plant at Well Site 7 is another major step toward strengthening our city's water infrastructure." He continued, "The project ensures that our water system continues to meet the growing demands of our community while maintaining the highest quality standards."
