The city of Scottsdale is recoiling from a tragedy that unfolded outside of an Old Town bar, resulting in the death of 29-year-old Thomas John "TJ" Pizzitola. Fox 10 Phoenix reported on the incident that began as a simple night out on October 11 at Pattie's First Avenue Lounge, near Scottsdale Road and First Avenue. According to an interview with his widow Krisan Pizzitola obtained by FOX 10 Phoenix, her late husband had texted her stating his love and pride for her decision to stay home with their soon-to-be-born child before the fatal events unfolded.
Over the course of the night, what was meant to be an evening among friends turned deadly. After being kicked out of the lounge in the early hours, TJ and his comrades found themselves in a confrontation initiated when one of his friends bumped into a woman. AZ Family stated the situation escalated rapidly, leading to a fight where Pizzitola was critically injured. As per an article by AZ Family, the police have classified the case as a homicide investigation, yet no arrests had been made at the time of their report. The medical examiner's office is in the process to determine the exact manner of death.
Investigators were thrust into action on the morning of October 22nd when they detained five individuals in relation with the assault. According to the same Fox 10 Phoenix report, 24-year-old Drew Meneses is alleged to have delivered the sucker punch that led to Pizzitola's demise. Other suspects include Julius Husser, Tony Becker, Mark Whitford, and Krista Molina. The young man's untimely death is particularly poignant given the impending arrival of his first child, a boy that Krisan plans to name TJ Vito in her husband's honor. "All he ever wanted to be was the best father ever and the best husband," Krisan told FOX 10 Phoenix.
The circumstances surrounding the fight raise numerous questions, but what remains clear is the absence that TJ's passing has left within his family and community. Despite their devastating loss, the Pizzitola family confirmed that TJ's decision to be an organ donor has resulted in the saving of five other lives. This shows a glimmer of hope and charity in the face of an unfathomable tragedy.
