Food is more than just sustenance in Miami-Dade County; it's becoming a topic of political discourse. This past Wednesday, Senator René García took the stage at Florida International University for a candid panel discussion on the use, and possible abuse, of synthetic food dyes in our diets. Joined by a panel of five experts, the group unpacked the role synthetic chemicals play in our food and their associated health risks, as per the county's announcement.
García, who has long advocated for public health, facilitated a conversation that cut to the heart of transparency and well-being in the food industry. “The purpose of this panel is to ensure we drive the conversation forward on how we can all work together — government, our local and private partners, and the community at large — to take the lead toward safer, natural alternatives," García said, according to a press release from Miami-Dade County.
Senator García and local community leaders are promoting initiatives in Miami-Dade County aimed at improving public health and food safety. At a panel held at FIU, García emphasized the importance of personal responsibility in making healthier dietary choices, while highlighting the role of government and educational programs in supporting residents.
