Motorists in Sevierville, take note: bridge repair work that was on the calendar has hit a snag thanks to Mother Nature's less cooperative side. In a recent social media post by the Sevierville Police Department, it was announced that the initial schedule for surface repairs on both the Collier Drive and Highway 66 bridges has been shuffled around due to persistent and expected rainy conditions.
The Collier Drive bridge work, slated to cause some westbound lane closures, is now set for November 4, from the witching hour until the early birds chirp at 8:00 a.m. The eastbound lanes will see a similar fate the following night, November 5. As for the Highway 66 bridge, near the intersection with Main Street (also known as Fred C. Atchley Memorial Bridge), southbound lanes will be under repair on November 6, and the northbound lanes will follow suit on November 7, each session commencing at midnight and wrapping up by 8:00 a.m.
Those who frequent these routes should prepare for the inevitable: lane closures are necessary for the work to be done. The department assures that traffic will keep moving, but drivers are advised to stay vigilant for sudden shifts in traffic patterns, the presence of heavy equipment, and crews on the ground.
