The 30th annual Stone Awards will take place this weekend at the Bartlett Performing Arts Theatre, recognizing civil rights leaders and community advocates for their contributions. Among the honorees is Shelby County Commissioner Henri E. Brooks, who is scheduled to receive the Lifetime Achievement Stone Award. According to Shelby County’s press release, the event is set for tomorrow, at 5 p.m., and will highlight individuals recognized for their sustained work in civil rights and economic justice.
Commissioner Henri E. Brooks, one of this year's 'Tried Stone' honorees, has a public service career spanning several decades. Her experience includes 14 years as State Representative for the 92nd District and holding multiple chair positions, including with the Core City, Neighborhoods & Housing Committee, General Government, Juvenile Court Committee, Community Services Committee, and the Brownfield Advisory Committee. She also served two terms on the Board of Commissioners beginning in August 2006 and remains in that role. Her recognition at the Stone Awards reflects her long-standing involvement in politics and community service across Memphis and surrounding areas.
The ceremony at the Bartlett Performing Arts Theatre is expected to draw community members, activists, and local officials to recognize the contributions of Commissioner Brooks and the other honorees in the areas of civil rights and economic justice. The event also highlights the continued efforts required to support progress in communities throughout Memphis. Commissioner Brooks is set to receive 'The EBEN-Tried Stone' award, which acknowledges a career marked by sustained public service and dedication to the principles associated with the civil rights movement.
