Langston University's homecoming weekend was disrupted when a shooting occurred early Saturday, casting a shadow over the celebratory events on campus. According to KOCO, police and the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) responded to the incident that took place at an apartment complex within the university premises. The OSBI has confirmed the involvement of a large crowd where the shooting unfolded, leading to one man being injured.
The victim, who was not a student at the university, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment. This unsettling news was delivered with a reminder of a desensitizing frequency to which such events occur. "Unfortunately, we've been desensitized, and that's not a good thing. I wasn't really scared, but I was worried for whoever was closer to the gunshots," a former student named Josiah told KOCO. Despite the incident, the university proceeded with its homecoming schedule, bolstering security measures to reassure attendees.
