A small plane made an emergency landing on an urban trail in North Lauderdale yesterday, according to local authorities. Local 10 reported that emergency responders arrived at the 8100 block of Southgate Boulevard after the incident, which left visible marks on the sidewalk from the Cessna Skyhawk’s landing.
The pilot and a student aboard the plane, registered to FXE Flightcenter Corp., were unharmed. A woman at a nearby bus stop sustained a minor injury, according to a Tamarac Fire spokesperson reported by CBS News. The pilot stated that the landing was due to fuel issues.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office and North Lauderdale Fire Rescue secured the area following the landing. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has been notified and is investigating the incident. As per NBC Miami, the plane, owned by OSM Aviation Academy, had departed from Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport, just a few miles from the landing site. The NTSB is examining the factors that led to the emergency landing on the trail along the Stranahan River.
