The Socorro Independent School District (SISD) has announced the opening of applications for its coveted early college high school programs, advanced academic academies, and Pathways in Technology Early College High Schools (P-TECH). Eager eighth graders within the SISD boundaries have until November 14th to apply for these forward-thinking educational opportunities, as outlined by Socorro ISD.
Recognizing the need for specialized education that bridges the gap between high school and college or career readiness, SISD is offering a range of pathways that cater to various interests, including health professions, fire science, and law, among others. Living inside the district, the eighth graders interested in these programs can do so through a straightforward lottery system, with an application window that closes precisely at 5 p.m. on the last day, per SISD's structure.
The P-TECH programs are potent beacons for those students keen to leapfrog into lucrative and fulfilling careers. With limited seats, capped at 25 students per cohort annually, these innovative programs align with specific career areas, providing an invaluable head start. Socorro ISD states that aspiring teachers, engineers, and computer scientists can find their niche within these specialized offerings, each school charting a different career territory.
For students not currently attending an SISD school but residing within its geographical embrace, the process entails using an alternate portal where they can upload the required documents, ensuring no child is left behind in the quest for advanced education. Whether interested in crime justice or pre-nursing, the P-TECH opportunities span several high schools, each fostering a unique academic realm.
Applications for these advanced academies or the early college high school programs carry a significant opportunity weight, potentially setting students on a trajectory toward an associate degree, Level 1 or 2 certificate, or industry-based certification, even before they have tossed their high school caps skyward. Moreover, as the school year progresses, applicants will receive acceptance notification letters, allowing them to embark on the next steps of their educational journey during the 2025-2026 school year, as SISD's schedule indicates.
