Firefighters tackled a substantial fire at a Mangonia Park storage facility currently under construction. The incident, which occurred today, prompted the Palm Beach County Fire Rescue to cordon off westbound traffic lanes along 45th Street while firefighting teams assembled to contain the blaze, according to CBS12.
While the flames sent plumes of smoke spiraling into the sky, it was the West Palm Beach Fire Rescue that ultimately implicated solar panels as the source of the fire, situated atop the unfinished facility located at the intersection of 45th Street and South Place, as previously detailed in coverage the site was closed as well, the structure not yet open to the public, and thankfully, there were no reported injuries resulting from the fire. By 12:15 p.m. authorities noted that the situation was largely contained, the cloud of smoke having dissipated significantly, as detailed by WPBF 25 News.
With the site cordoned off and multiple emergency vehicles on scene, commuters experienced significant disruptions during the incident, though the immediate and coordinated response of the fire services averted greater calamity. Officials are still investigating the exact cause of the solar panel ignition, and no further details regarding potential causes or the extent of the damage to the property have been released.
As of the latest updates, provided by the Palm Beach County Fire Rescue, westbound traffic flow has been restored but the overall impact on the construction timeline for the storage facility remains to be seen.
