A South Florida pharmacist was arrested on charges of forging prescriptions, allegedly for her own benefit and that of her relatives. Chandra Teerie, 59, faces more than 80 felonies following accusations that span from insurance fraud and forgery to grand theft and drug-related charges.
Teerie, as reported by Local 10 News, was apprehended at the CVS Pharmacy where she worked in Islamorada. According to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, officials were alerted to the situation in September when CVS discovered falsified "forging doctors’ prescriptions for non-controlled substances for herself and family members." This scheme allegedly cost the pharmacy chain upwards of $8,500. Representatives from CVS have yet to comment to fully expound on the case.
Jail records indicated that Teerie, licensed as a Florida pharmacist since 2004, was no longer in custody as of yesterday morning. The Monroe County Sheriff's Office noted that she's scheduled to make an arraignment appearance in a Florida Keys courtroom on Nov. 12.
Teerie's actions, which included repeatedly creating fraudulent prescriptions, were revealed during the investigation after the Monroe County Sheriff's Office received a report from pharmacy officials at CVS. This detail was confirmed by NBC Miami, which reported that the sheriff's deputies were involved in her subsequent arrest. Teerie's legal representative has yet to address these allegations publicly.
