A fatal shooting in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood of St. Louis claimed the life of 45-year-old Eddie Smith in the early hours of September 18. According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert in the 3100 block of Osceola, where they found Smith lying in the street with gunshot wounds.
He was transported to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Police initially withheld his identity until notifying next of kin.
Authorities have since arrested a 58-year-old male suspect, who now faces charges including first-degree murder, armed criminal action, and possession of a controlled substance. Homicide detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
