An incident unfolded in Morehouse Parish as a Sterlington man lost his life in a vehicular collision. Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to the two-vehicle crash on Dowd Road, east of Louisiana Highway 139. The accident, occurring shortly before 11:00 a.m. last Friday, resulted in the death of 43-year-old Timothy Gross.
According to the preliminary investigation by the state police, Gross's 2013 Toyota Rav4, which was headed east on Dowd Road, collided head-on with a 2012 Nissan Altima traveling in the opposite direction. Traveling west on the same road, the Nissan Altima was struck by Gross after he crossed the centerline for unknown reasons. Gross, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene, informed Louisiana State Police's official statement.
The driver of the Nissan, having been properly restrained, sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a hospital. Authorities have collected toxicology samples as a part of routine procedure, which will be analyzed to determine further details about the crash. With the investigation still underway, state police continue to gather information to ascertain the factors leading up to the fatal event.
Highlighting the significance of seatbelt use, the Louisiana State Police reminds the public that restraint systems significantly reduce the chances of severe injury or death in crashes. Louisiana law mandates seatbelt use for every passenger in a vehicle.
