The Newton County Board of Commissioners has officially appointed Susan G. Nolley as the new County Clerk, a transition following the retirement of former clerk Jackie Smith in July. Nolley, previously the Deputy County Clerk, took on the role's responsibilities since Smith's departure.
In a unanimous vote held last Tuesday during the Board's first Regular Meeting of the month, the switch to elevate Nolley from her role since May 2021, to the forefront was decided. According to Newton County's announcement, Nolley received her Georgia Certified Clerk certification in February 2024, adding a layer of formal recognition to her three decades of service at the Newton County Sheriff's Office.
"I am grateful for the opportunity and committed to serve the citizens of Newton County in the role of County Clerk," Nolley said, as per the county's announcement. The County Clerk is integral in maintaining meticulous records, including minutes and proceedings for the Board of Commissioners.
