A music-filled evening at Tequilas Event Center in Fabens turned into a scene of violence this past weekend, with shots ringing out and deputies descending upon the busy concert and off-road event. Law enforcement officials arrested a suspect after responding to reports of gunfire on Saturday night, according to a social media post by El Paso County Sheriff Oscar Ugarte.
At around 9:21 p.m. local time on Saturday, El Paso County Sheriff’s deputies arrived on the scene following calls about shots fired. They stopped a black GMC Sierra truck and identified the driver as Orlando Alfonso Corona, 39, who they allege was the shooter. Per information posted online by Sheriff Ugarte, the victim was urgently taken to a local medical center and, as of now, remains in stable but critical condition.
The aftermath of the incident was swiftly handled by the Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit, which took over the investigation. Orlando Alfonso Corona now faces serious charges. He was arrested and booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility under one count of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. His bond has been set at a steep $200,000.
