Authorities have reported a significant break in a homicide case that occurred earlier this year in Southeast D.C. The Metropolitan Police Department confirmed the arrest of 32-year-old Clarence Edward Jones, Jr., in connection with the murder of 29-year-old Benjamin Mingo. The incident unfolded on the 3800 block of 1st Street, Southeast, where officers found Mingo with a fatal gunshot wound.
On March 27, at approximately 3:24 p.m., police were called to the scene. Despite swift response and attempted life-saving measures, Mingo was pronounced dead. The suspect, Jones, was apprehended nearly seven months later, on October 23, through the efforts of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force. According to the official MPD news release, he is now facing charges that include First Degree Murder While Armed (Premeditated).
The investigation, which led to Jones’s arrest, spanned several months, involving meticulous collection of evidence and leads. Further details about the motive and circumstances surrounding the case remain under the police's purview. Jones was located and arrested pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant.
