Eventually, the man fired several shots from within his domain, downing a Sheriff's Office drone in the process. These events led to a response from the SWAT team and local law enforcement who contained the situation, CBS Sacramento indicated. The negotiation efforts were met with gunfire, with some rounds hitting neighboring residences, and although a window across the street was struck, there were no injuries reported.
While this intense scenario unfolded, the sheriff’s office confirmed that some homes surrounding the incident were placed under shelter-in-place orders, while others were evacuated for safety. Despite the tension, deputies managed not to discharge their weapons during the standoff, which was notable given the circumstances.
The suspect concluded the incident by surrendering to the authorities and being detained, the sheriff's department said.
