Taco Centro is set to warmly spice up the streets of Little Italy with their second San Diego location, swinging open its doors this Saturday. The crowd-favorite from Gaslamp is bringing its modern Mexican street cuisine to a cozy corner at 2171 Kettner Blvd, right off Ivy Street. According to an announcement from 10News, the grand opening promises a tantalizing deal from 12:00 noon to 5:00 PM. You can buy two tacos and get the third taco at the house. Plus, there will truly be live entertainment to kick off the festivities.
Taco Centro's Instagram post echoes the excitement, inviting San Diegans to "Bring your appetite, your friends, and your taco-loving energy we’re turning Little Italy into Taco Heaven!" The new location's expansive menu, which features 13 different tacos alongside burritos, quesadillas, and nachos, is also set to include unique offerings like birria ramen and pizza, aiming to satisfy various cravings. Founder Adrian Gutierrez shared with 10News, "I have always loved this neighborhood, and I am grateful that the success of the first Taco Centro allowed me to pursue this second location."
While Taco Centro celebrates its expansion, the city of San Diego has been addressing a more somber issue: clearing homeless encampments. Recent cleanups are part of an agreement with Caltrans, giving the city access to state land. This followed after the San Diego City Council passed a camping ban back in 2023. Encampments around freeway areas were subject to this agreement, and according to a report by QSR Magazine, at least 54 individuals from these encampments have accepted some form of shelter since the cleanups began.
