A two-vehicle crash on US 90B near General De Gaulle Drive in Orleans Parish on October 4 resulted in the death of 36-year-old Lonnie Thompson of Westwego. According to the Louisiana State Police, Thompson was operating a 2022 Can-Am Spyder motorcycle when it was struck by a 2012 Acura TL driven by 26-year-old Azaria Scott of Terrytown.
Thompson, who was not wearing a DOT-approved helmet, was critically injured and later died. Scott, who showed signs of impairment and had a blood alcohol level above the legal limit, was arrested after attempting to flee and now faces vehicular homicide and related charges, as reported by the Louisiana State Police.
Scott’s charges were upgraded to vehicular homicide after Troopers confirmed Thompson’s death and obtained an arrest warrant. “After the crash, Scott attempted to flee the scene. Troopers quickly found Scott and the Acura disabled on the General De Gaulle Drive exit ramp,” the Louisiana State Police said. Scott was arrested on Monday and booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center. The investigation remains ongoing.
