Three individuals sustained injuries in an incident that escalated from an attempted robbery to a shooting near Tempe Town Lake on a late Friday night, authorities reported. As detailed in a news release from the Tempe Police Department and subsequently reported by ABC15, the confrontation unfolded just before the stroke of midnight near the intersection of Rio Salado Parkway and Hardy Drive. According to police, a group accosted two individuals riding scooters, brandishing a gun in what commenced as a robbery attempt.
However, this nearing midnight clash took a perilous turn when the individuals on the scooters resisted their assailants, resulting in an exchange of gunfire, during which one of the scooter riders and two members of the approaching group were injured. The group fled the scene only to be apprehended by authorities at a later juncture. Following the incident, all the wounded parties were taken to a hospital where they received treatment for their non-life-threatening injuries, an account supported by both ABC15 and KTAR reports.
