A stretch of Route FF (Old U.S. Route 40) in Kingdom City will soon be off-limits for travelers as MoDOT sets the stage to begin demolition of a railroad bridge. Reports indicate that commencing on Tuesday, the segment under the aged structure will close, a move expected to last an estimated 30 days. MoDOT aims to facilitate smoother journeys in the future but for now, advises travelers to plot alternate paths. Expect to see advisory signs as approaches to the closure will be clearly marked, yet no official detour route will be established.
The pending disruption is a cog in a much grander machinery of interstate enhancements. Within the vast scope of plans to bolster I-70, which envisions the ease of travel with the addition of a third lane, the closure is but a minor inconvenience. With a $405 million contract at the helm, the ambition is to soon freshly pave all lanes and enhance the interchanges at U.S. Route 63 and U.S. Route 54. To not slowly crawl toward this future, drivers are urged to keep phones down and remain vigilant in work zones.
Embodying a comprehensive approach to infrastructural upgradation, the first project of MoDOT's Statewide Improve I-70 Program, Improve I-70: Columbia to Kingdom City, operates on a grand financial gesture from Missouri’s FY2024 budget. A generous $2.8 billion allocation from the General Revenue signifies a pledge to refine nearly 200 miles of a vital transportation artery, stretching from Blue Springs to Wentzville, into a more capacious highway conducive to the relentless pulse of commerce and convenience.
All plans are at the mercy of temperamental weather, hence constructions schedules are prone to adjustments. MoDOT takes the opportunity to remind everyone to "work with us by buckling up, putting your phone down, obeying all traffic signs, and slowing down and moving over in work zones."
