Tragedy struck in Hillsdale County this past weekend as two individuals were killed in a motorcycle crash, according to details from multiple reports. The incident, which occurred last Saturday afternoon, involved a 59-year-old Manitou Beach man and a 60-year-old Hudson woman, both of whom tragically died at the scene of the accident. CBS News Detroit reported that the crash happened around 3:52 p.m. on Meridian Road, just north of Beecher Road in Pittsford Township.
Witnesses informed the Michigan State Police that the motorcycle, a 2005 Harley-Davidson, attempted to overtake another vehicle and crossed the center line. As oncoming traffic approached, the rider swerved, which caused him and his passenger, who were witnessed without wearing helmets, to be thrown from the motorcycle after veering off into a ditch and striking a hole, according to MLive.
Following the incident, motorists stopped their acts of kindness, rendering aid and performing CPR until emergency responders arrived. Despite the timely efforts and first aid provided by bystanders, neither victim could be saved. The Hillsdale County Sheriff's Office, alongside Hudson Fire and EMS, assisted troopers at the somber scene, as noted by the initial reports from WILX.
Contributing to the tragic events of that day, several witnesses recounted the motorcycle speeding ahead of the crash, weaving through traffic and violating no-passing zones. Authorities suspect alcohol may have been a factor in the crash, which claimed two lives. The investigation is ongoing as officials work to determine exactly what led to the fatal accident.
