Gunfire broke out in Mount Pleasant yesterday afternoon, leaving two men seriously injured after a shootout. According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, the incident happened just before 1:15 p.m. in the 4200 block of S. Compton, where officers responded to calls and a ShotSpotter alert for gunfire.

When police arrived at the scene, they found evidence of the shooting but neither of the victims. Soon after, a crash on I-55 at Gasconade was linked to the shooting. A 23-year-old man with gunshot wounds was found in the crashed car. Officers gave first aid, and he was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

A 33-year-old man, also involved in the shooting, later arrived at a hospital with gunshot wounds. He was listed in critical but stable condition. The St. Louis Police Department reported that early findings from District 3 detectives suggest the two men were shooting at each other in the neighborhood. The motive remains under investigation.
