Early Sunday morning, officers from Boston Police District D-4 responded to a large vehicle takeover at the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue and Tremont Street involving more than 100 people. The situation turned violent as individuals attacked police cruisers with fireworks and poles, setting one vehicle on fire before the Boston Fire Department extinguished it, according to the Boston Police Department.
Police arrested two suspects identified as 18-year-old Julian Bowers of Cumberland and 19-year-old William Cantwell of Warwick, both from Rhode Island. Bowers faces multiple charges including assaulting an officer, while Cantwell was charged with similar offenses and possession of marijuana edibles, as reported by the Boston Police Department.
“During the incident, officers arrested two individuals,” the Boston Police Department said. Bowers and Cantwell were taken into custody after separate altercations with officers — one following a foot chase and the other after a struggle involving an orange pole. Both were booked and will be arraigned in Roxbury District Court. The investigation continues, and authorities are asking anyone with information to contact the CrimeStoppers Tip Line.
