
The Sunland Park Police Department is actively investigating two separate shooting incidents from Monday, with one leaving a person dead and another in critical condition. According to KTSM, the first incident took place on the 100 block of Palma Drive at about 5 p.m., where a male victim was found with gunshot wounds. Despite life-saving efforts by both police and fire personnel, the individual succumbed to his injuries. The second incident occurred at approximately 3 a.m. on the 5000 block of Ashwood Drive, as confirmed by law enforcement after a local hospital reported a patient with gunshot wounds.
Both events prompted a significant response from local authorities. At the Ashwood Drive scene, near Santa Teresa Elementary School, officers discovered a female victim with multiple gunshot wounds, now listed in critical condition. KVIA noted that a suspect has been taken into custody relating to this case. The situation on Palma Drive, which is near Sunland Park Drive, resulted in local officials arresting a suspect following the death of the male victim.
The Sunland Park Police are continuing their investigations into the circumstances surrounding both shootings. A police spokesperson stated to CBS4 Local that the incidents appear to be isolated, with no immediate threat posed to the community. The identities of the victims and the suspects remain undisclosed as inquiries progress.
