Two individuals are now in police custody following their attempt to break into a garage on the southeast side of Indianapolis, resulting in a confrontation with an armed resident. According to an IMPD News social media post, Ashley Barbee, 38, and Jordan Demaree, 26, faced arrest after a disturbance report brought officers to the scene at E. Bradbury Avenue this past Thursday.

During the course of events, while Barbee and Demaree encountered the officers in the 2800 block of Hervey Street, the victim was already embroiled in a physical altercation that ensued after reportedly having a firearm pointed at them. One suspect further muddied the waters, compounding the victim's troubles by brandishing a security badge, attempting to impersonate an undercover officer, and trying to commandeer the victim’s vehicle.

The badge, as it turned out, had been stolen in a separate theft. The gun, discovered by officers in a nearby grassy area, revealed itself to be a BB gun, casting a different light on the initial threat. The perpetrators now face robbery charges, impersonating a law enforcement officer, burglary, and unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, with Barbee and Demaree ensnared by their actions in an ever-tightening net of legal consequences.

As per the IMPD News release, the final decision on charges will rest with the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office (MCPO). Despite the severity of the accusations hanging over Barbee and Demaree, it is underscored that all arrested individuals should be considered innocent, navigating the presumption of innocence until, if ever, proven guilty in a court of law.
