Former state representative and DeKalb County CEO Vernon Jones has announced his candidacy for Georgia Secretary of State. In a statement to FOX 5 Atlanta, Jones outlined a campaign focused on election integrity, business support, and government accountability, emphasizing paper ballots, stricter voter ID laws, and limits on mail-in voting.
Jones, who switched from the Democratic to the Republican Party in 2021, has previously run for U.S. Senate, U.S. House, and DeKalb County sheriff. Following his 2022 primary defeat in Georgia’s 10th Congressional District, he said in a post on Atlanta News First that he believes he can serve the needs of Georgians by maintaining trust in elections and business.
The race for Georgia Secretary of State includes Republican candidates Gabe Sterling and Kelvin King, and Democratic candidate Judge Penny Brown Reynolds. Current Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger is running for governor, leaving the position open.
