Warren Easton Charter High School in New Orleans suspended classes today following an off-campus incident involving two students. According to WWLTV, the school issued a statement confirming the cancellation and noted that it is cooperating with the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) in the ongoing investigation.
The incident took place yesterday afternoon at a McDonald’s on Canal Street, where a girl allegedly stabbed a boy multiple times during a fight. The boy was taken to a local hospital, and the girl was arrested on charges of aggravated battery by cutting, as per nola.com.
In a statement shared by WDSU, NOLA Public Schools said officers responded to a disturbance around 4:20 p.m. involving a group of people, which led to the stabbing. The school emphasized that student safety remains its top priority and that families will be updated on available support services.
Olin Parker of NOLA Public Schools confirmed that both students were from Warren Easton and that authorities are continuing to investigate. The boy’s condition has not been released, and the girl’s identity is being withheld because she is a minor.
