A woman sustained injuries after being shot near Vasquez Pizza And Spanish Food in Boston's Roxbury neighborhood yesterday. The incident, which erupted around 4 p.m. outside the Dudley Street eatery, resulted in over a dozen bullet holes piercing the restaurant's windows and a glass door, according to a report from CBS News Boston.
Following the shooting, the injured woman was transported to the hospital with injuries deemed non-life-threatening, state police. Witnesses at the scene recounted the harrowing moment when the shots rang out. "Hearing consecutive shots back-to-back I was like, it messed me up because I was like I don't feel safe anymore and if we stayed in that block any longer, we probably could have gotten hit in the crossfire," an individual who was working nearby during the incident told CBS News Boston. Nearby, filled with concern, customers and employees ducked for cover inside a barbershop.
Police have not made any arrests related to the shooting as of yet, and the investigation remains ongoing. The restaurant's vicinity was cordoned off while authorities marked the scene with evidence indicators. A report from WCVB details a witness account, "I heard a gunshot and I was really scared at that time," he said. "I came out and I saw the body over there," conveyed the witness to WCVB.
The act of violence prompted remarks from Massachusetts State Senator Liz Miranda, who resides in the area and considers such incidents intolerable. "It's about every member in our community saying it's not OK, we're not going to stand for this. This business will repair itself and hopefully won't be impacted too much, but there is a family tonight with a young woman who may or may not be home for dinner," said Miranda, a statement obtained by CBS News Boston. "For you to shoot that many shots into a business that was operating in the middle of the day means that you're a callous human being and shouldn't be on the streets of Roxbury or anywhere." She highlighted the disregard shooters held for human life, firing without thought.
