Yolo County Public Works reports that sections of South River Road have eroded shoulders, making driving unsafe. These areas are located along the levee from West Sacramento to Freeport Bridge, according to the Yolo County.
Yolo County is taking steps to improve road safety. This week, changeable message signs have been put up to alert drivers to the "NO SHOULDER" conditions and advise a speed limit of 35 MPH. Public Works is also considering adding more signs to make drivers aware of the hazards. Widening the shoulders would need approvals from state and federal agencies because the road is on top of a levee.
Yolo County Public Works is advising drivers on South River Road to drive carefully. Road conditions may continue until construction and approvals are completed. Drivers can report issues using the "Report A Concern" webpage. The levee is managed by the State of California and the Army Corps of Engineers.
