An 18-year-old has been charged with felonious assault following a shooting incident in Loveland. Harry Nelson is accused of shooting a man outside a residence on Iroquois Drive on Wednesday afternoon, according to FOX19. The victim, after being shot, managed to drive away from the scene to call 911 from another jurisdiction, with scanner traffic indicating that the individual later returned to where the shooting occurred.
The defense is framing this incident as an act of defense, stating that Nelson witnessed the victim attacking his mother. "It was a paramour of hers that was attacking her... that was attacking her that led to this entire attack," Nelson's attorney argued, as obtained by FOX19. Prosecutors, however, have narrated the event as stemming from a fistfight. According to the prosecution, there is doorbell camera footage that shows the victim was unarmed at the time of the shooting.
WLWT reports that the altercation began after a verbal dispute and that Nelson's attorney mentioned the victim had a romantic relationship with Nelson's mother. Nelson is currently held at the Hamilton County Justice Center, with a bond set at $300,000. The mother of Nelson has since barred the victim from her home and expressed her desire for her son to return.
The condition of the victim, who required surgery following the incident, has not been widely disclosed. While he is still recovering in the hospital, the public has been invited to assist with the investigation. Loveland police encourage those with information to contact Detective Brandon Asbury directly, as stated in a report from LOCAL12. The community has been unsettled by this event, noting that this isn't the first instance of police responding to disturbances at the residence, highlighting broader concerns about domestic tranquility and community safety.
