
An early morning tragedy occurred in Oak Park when a 71-year-old disabled veteran was killed in a hit-and-run accident on Saturday. According to CBS News Detroit, the crash took place on West Nine Mile Road near Harding Street around 5:20 a.m.
FOX 2 Detroit reported that Oak Park Public Safety Officers found the victim in the street and attempted lifesaving measures, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. The man, who was in a wheelchair, was struck by an eastbound traveling dark-colored sedan which continued driving after the collision.
Oak Park Public Safety officials say a man was hit by a “dark-colored sedan, likely a Kia or Hyundai,” and they are asking anyone with information to come forward, as mentioned by Audacy. Lt. Brian Barker said surveillance video shows the man was struck about three hours before officers arrived. The case is being investigated by the Oak Park Public Safety Investigations and Detective Bureau along with the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Reconstruction Team. The victim’s name has not been released, and anyone with information is asked to contact Oak Park Public Safety at 248-691-7447.
