An Abington man, Douglas Silva Soares, 26, faces multiple charges following a weekend crash in Holbrook, Massachusetts. Soares was charged with negligent operation of a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of property damage, marked lanes violation, and speeding. The crash occurred last Saturday around 5:45 p.m. on South Franklin Street and left him hospitalized, according to WHDH.
Officials reported that three cars were severely damaged. Soares’s truck, traveling at high speed, crossed the double yellow line and hit two parked cars head-on, igniting a fire. NBC10 Boston obtained surveillance video showing an officer and bystanders rescuing Soares from the burning truck before it was fully engulfed.
Holbrook firefighters extinguished the blaze after roughly 40 minutes. The officer involved in the rescue was also evaluated for inhalation of fumes and exposure to fire extinguisher residue. No fatalities were reported. Soares remains at South Shore Hospital, and his court date in Quincy District Court will be scheduled once he is able to attend.
