In a festive move to promote local commerce this holiday season, the City of Alameda, along with the West Alameda Business Association (WABA) and the Downtown Alameda Business Association (DABA), has kicked off the 12 Days of Alameda campaign. Starting from Small Business Saturday, the campaign runs through December 10 and aims to draw attention to the unique products and services offered by Alameda's businesses. Shoppers are enticed to explore various themed days, showcasing everything from food and art to wellness and pet care products, further cementing the island's reputation for diverse and vibrant local offerings.
Supported fervently by the City's Economic Development and Communications Department, the 12 Days of Alameda aims to bridge the community through commerce and creativity. This measure has been sorely needed after small businesses have faced the economic challenges of recent years. As reported by the City of Alameda, those participating in the Shop Local campaign will be able to collect tickets, which offer a chance to win one of 12 giveaways that feature local merchant products and unique Alameda experiences, as various business owners provide them.
Elissa Glickman, the Executive Director of WABA, shared her enthusiasm about the initiative, saying, "12 Days of Alameda captures the creative spirit and collaboration that make our island shine." According to the City of Alameda, she further emphasized the significance of community support for local trade: "Supporting local keeps that spirit alive, and our community thriving."
Meanwhile, Kathy Weber, Executive Director of DABA, underscored the broader impact of the campaign, saying, "When we shop, dine, and celebrate locally, we’re not just enjoying the season—we’re directly supporting the small businesses and people who make Alameda such a vibrant and welcoming place year-round."
