Heads up, Atlanta drivers: A stretch of Jessie Hill Jr. Drive SE will be off-limits this weekend. Starting 9:00 a.m. today, November 8, 2025, and going strong until noon the next day, city workers will be taking down a crane tower, which necessitates closing the road from Martin Luther King Jr. Drive SE all the way to Decatur Street SE. As reported by the Atlanta Department of Transportation, they’ve got some detours set up to get everyone where they need to go without too much fuss.
The detours are simple, just a handful of lefts and rights designed to skirt around the construction. Northbound traffic on Capital Sq SW will turn right onto Martin Luther King Jr. Dr SE, then left onto Hill St SE, and another left onto Decatur St SE. Meanwhile, Eastbound on Martin Luther King Jr. Dr SE are directed to turn left onto Hill St SE, that same left onto Decatur St SE is waiting for you.
One for westbound travelers on Martin Luther King Jr. Dr SE: turning right onto Piedmont Ave SE, follow it up with a right onto Decatur St SE. Southbound folks on Jessie Hill Jr Dr SE, you’ll take a left onto Decatur St SE and then a right onto Hill St SE, and a final right will put you back onto Martin Luther King Jr. Dr SE. If you're coming east on Decatur St SE, just turn right onto Hill St SE and right again onto Martin Luther King Jr. Dr SE. Enforcement officers, the unsung heroes, will be on the ground to help with the traffic control during this time, as informed by the ATLDOT.
It's important for pedestrians to note that the sidewalks lining Jessie Hill Jr., Drive SE are also off the table during this period of closure. Should anyone have any pressing concerns or burning questions, the Atlanta Department of Transportation is standing by at [email protected] to field any and all inquiries.
