A Cook County judge on Tuesday handed a 10-year prison term to a 19-year-old Chicago man for his role in the gunpoint theft of an 83-year-old woman’s Rolls-Royce in Beverly. The June carjacking rattled the victim but left her physically unharmed.
Prosecutors say Trevon Robinson pleaded guilty to a felony count of aggravated vehicular hijacking with a firearm and was given a decade behind bars, as reported by Fox News. Authorities say the theft happened in June 2024 and involved a silver 2017 Rolls-Royce Wraith taken from the woman’s driveway.
Chicago police’s Vehicular Hijacking Task Force traced the dark SUV used in the crime with a license-plate reader and arrested Robinson inside a Foot Locker on South Ashland, according to Patch. Patch reported the SUV had itself been stolen earlier in June and that Robinson was denied pretrial release after his arrest.
Prosecutors said detectives recovered a note on Robinson’s phone with the victim’s home address and that he recorded video of himself following the stolen Rolls-Royce, per CWBChicago. Court documents cited by local outlets say those items helped build the case against Robinson.
Sentence, parole, and legal fallout
At the time of the carjacking, Robinson was on parole from the Illinois Department of Corrections after serving an 18-month sentence for aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, Fox News reports. The judge imposed a 10-year term for the aggravated vehicular hijacking conviction.
Parole revocation and next steps
State officials are moving to revoke Robinson’s parole in light of the new conviction, and prosecutors have flagged the recovered video and address note as central evidence in the case, according to CWBChicago. It remains to be seen whether additional charges or parole proceedings will be filed as officials complete their review.
Ald. Matthew O’Shea said the victim was not harmed and thanked the Chicago Police Department and the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office for their work, per Patch. Reports describe the vehicle as a silver 2017 Rolls-Royce Wraith; police said the owner was shaken but physically uninjured.
