Two Boston residents were taken into custody following an early-morning traffic violation that led to the discovery of a firearm and illegal narcotics. Rayshod Taylor, 38, of Mattapan, along with Travis Windley, 37, of Boston, faces multiple charges after police initiated a traffic stop in Roxbury. According to an official statement from the Boston Police Department, the vehicle was observed speeding and nearly colliding with parked cars around 2:45 AM today.
When police attempted to conduct the stop, the driver, later identified as Taylor, did not immediately comply, gradually slowing down to finally halt at 39 Wenonah Street. The officers' approach to execute their duties was met with resistance as Taylor allegedly locked the vehicle doors and tried to recklessly drive away, striking a police vehicle in the process. Despite efforts to calmly resolve the situation, Taylor continued to resist forcefully, necessitating additional officers to assist in his removal from the vehicle.
Post-arrest, the vehicle search yielded several plastic bags with cocaine and crack cocaine, totaling 34 grams. A concealed Smith & Wesson M&P Shield was further retrieved from the vehicle, featuring an obliterated serial number and loaded with ammunition. Taylor is now facing several charges, including carrying a loaded firearm without a license and drug trafficking. Windley, the passenger, is accused of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon on a police officer, among other infractions.
Both suspects are expected to appear in Roxbury District Court, where they will answer to their respective charges as listed. Notably, this marks the third offense for Taylor regarding carrying a loaded firearm without licensure, indicating a recurring disregard for public safety and legal statutes.
