Brooklyn Park residents and nearby community members should prepare as the Living Well Resource Fair is set to take place in just a week on November 14 at the Community Activity Center. The annual event is a hub for individuals of all ages and stages of life, with a special focus on older adults, individuals with disabilities, and their caregivers.
Entry to the fair is free of charge and it aims to connect attendees with over 60 exhibitors offering resources and services designed to assist with aging and maintaining independence. Information on a variety of aging topics will be available via quick 15-minute hot-topic speaker sessions throughout the day, according to the event bulletin released by the City of Brooklyn Park. The sessions cover essential topics, including dementia care navigation, downsizing possessions, avoiding online scams, and tips for dealing with vision loss.
The fair also puts a spotlight on health with free vaccinations provided by Cub Pharmacy – including Flu, Covid-19, RSV, and Pneumonia shots – for those with health insurance cards, and as long as supplies last. Alongside health services, light refreshments will be available, and attendees can participate in door prize drawings offered by many of the exhibitors.
For added convenience, there will be free shuttle services from the parking lot to the front door of the activity center. For those concerned with the security of their personal information, Shred Right 4 Good is hosting a free shred truck from 9:30 to 11 a.m., where community members can securely dispose of their confidential papers. Just bring your documents in a brown paper grocery bag or small box, and look for the signage in the CAC West parking lot, off of Edinbrook Parkway.
Mini-speaker sessions are also on the docket, housed in the Senior Lounge, and topics at these talks will range from end-of-life pre-planning to maximizing veteran benefits. With the variety of comprehensive services and resources that will be available, the Living Well Resource Fair stands out as a prime opportunity for people in the Brooklyn Park area to gather important information and connect with key community services all in one place.
