As the clock ticks towards the end of November, Brooklyn Park residents are reminded to line their streets with recycling bins, not with leaves. The city has set a schedule for people to have their recycling carts curbside by 6:30 a.m., giving crews a daily deadline to complete collections by 6:00 p.m. According to the latest bulletin from the city, residents should place their cart at least three feet from any other objects, including mailboxes, with the cart handle facing away from the street. Importantly, residents are urged to avoid the use of plastic bags for recyclables, as these bags are directly thrown away at the sorting facilities.

In a statement about the recycling practices, the bulletin emphasized the proper placement and content of recycling carts: "Have material loose in your cart, never in bags." The reasoning is twofold: plastic bags are discarded without opening at the sorting facility, and materials in paper bags can become trapped during the truck's compaction process, subsequently failing to be separated properly at the sorting facility. Keeping up with sustainable and effective recycling practices not only helps the environment but also ensures that the processing of materials is not hindered by avoidable mistakes.

With winter approaching, the City of Brooklyn Park marks November 30 as the closing date for the Maple Grove Yardwaste Site this year. Before the doors close, citizens can drop off yard waste for free, including their raked leaves, at the designated site located at 10300 Maple Grove Parkway, Maple Grove, MN. Operating hours are Monday through Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on Sundays from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., except for Thanksgiving Day.

Reminding its readers to keep the streets clean, the city requests that "Keep your leaves out of the streets." Residents are instructed to bring their leaves to the Maple Grove Yardwaste Site, empty them of the bags, and take the bags back with them. Proof of residency will be required, such as a driver's license or utility bill, ensuring that the service remains exclusive to community members. As a part of their commitment to maintaining city order and cleanliness, the city's scheduled recycling and yard waste disposal opportunities reflect an ongoing effort to manage waste responsibly and sustainably.
