Residents of Davie, Hollywood, and Pembroke Pines will see mosquito control operations conducted by Broward County’s Mosquito Control Section from Monday through Friday next week. The larvicide spraying will take place nightly between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., depending on weather conditions, to help reduce populations of Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes, which can transmit diseases such as dengue, yellow fever, and chikungunya.

According to a Broward County announcement, the county will use VectoBac WDG, a larvicide containing Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis (Bti). The product is certified by the Organic Materials Review Institute and approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The World Health Organization (WHO) also lists it as a recommended control method for mosquito larvae.

In coordination with the Florida Department of Health and local Code Enforcement agencies, Broward County is working across its 31 municipalities to limit mosquito breeding sites. Residents and business owners are urged to inspect their properties and remove standing water from containers such as planters, buckets, and birdbaths to prevent mosquito breeding.

For continued mosquito issues, residents can call 311 or submit an online Mosquito Service Request Form. Assistance is also available from the Highway and Bridge Maintenance Division during business hours at 954-357-6040.
