The local license office at 1021 West Buchanan is set to shutter temporarily. The Missouri Department of Revenue has confirmed that the office will shut down after business on November 25. Don't expect doors to open again until January 2026, at which point the office will resume operations at a yet-undisclosed new location. While the regular spot is getting a refresh, you won't be left in the lurch; alternatives are within arm's reach.
Residents needing to keep their motor vehicle and driver licensing affairs in order can pivot to neighboring offices. Among these, the Eldon License Office is located at 404 East 4th Street, Suite B. There's the Versailles License Office that one can find at 108 North Monroe, and not to be overlooked, the Jefferson City License Office at 2015 Schotthill Woods Drive, provided by the Missouri Department of Revenue. Lastly, the Boonville License Office on 520 Ryan Street, Unit F, will handle your needs. If you've been longing for those personalized plates, Boonville will also be the pick-up point for completed orders.
Missourians can use a variety of online services from the Department of Revenue instead of visiting offices in person. License plate renewals are available through the Online License Plate Renewal System if your county shares personal property tax information. You can check if your county participates and find out what’s needed for registration renewal online.
The department’s chatbot, DORA, is available 24/7 to answer questions about taxes, motor vehicles, and driver licensing. For those who prefer, renewals can also be completed by phone at (573) 751-1957, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
