Carrie Benedon has been appointed to the Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission (CCC). The appointment was made jointly by Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell, Governor Maura Healey, and Treasurer Deborah B. Goldberg, according to an announcement from the Massachusetts government website.
Benedon has served in the Attorney General’s Office for more than a decade, most recently as Director of the Division of Open Government, where she oversaw the resolution of over 2,000 Open Meeting Law complaints. She also previously worked with the Department of Public Health, handling legal matters related to medical marijuana regulation.
Her appointment to the CCC takes effect on November 17. Under state law, the Governor, Attorney General, and Treasurer jointly appoint two of the five commissioners—one with industry management experience and one with expertise in legal, policy, or social justice matters. Benedon fills the latter role, joining Commissioner Bruce Stebbins, who was reappointed earlier this year.
The CCC, established through the Acts of 2017, is responsible for regulating Massachusetts’ medical and adult-use cannabis industries, ensuring compliance with state laws approved by voters in 2016.
