The Centralina Regional Council, together with the City of Charlotte, recently announced a new funding opportunity aimed at promoting solar energy adoption among low- to moderate-income households. Qualified nonprofit organizations are encouraged to apply for support in facilitating the Solarize Charlotte-Mecklenburg program. This initiative seeks to bolster community awareness, especially regarding solar installation opportunities for eligible homeowners within this income bracket.
Applications for this program are due no later than November 21, at 5 p.m., and organizations are urged to carefully review the full Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) to ensure compliance with application and program requirements. The partnership goals are to not only spread awareness but to also create a referral system, thus advancing the process for prospective homeowners to potentially receive a solar installation, with a target of 25 installations set to be completed by April 30, 2026.
Engagement in outreach activities within targeted neighborhoods is another significant aspect of this initiative. This focus on high-impact community interaction aims at not just disseminating information but also at enhancing nonprofit capacity in understanding solar energy systems. It is anticipated that Centralina will be awarding two awards of $10,000 each to successful applicants who will undertake the specified tasks listed in Section 5 of the NOFA.
To be considered for funding, applying nonprofits need to meet several qualifications. These include being 501c3 organizations in good standing with the State of North Carolina, having a service area encompassing Charlotte, and a mission dedicated to serving low- to moderate-income individuals and households.
