Charlotte and Mecklenburg residents eyeing solar energy have until this Friday to sign up for customized proposals through the Solarize Charlotte-Mecklenburg campaign, which seeks to make solar panels and energy storage more financially accessible via group purchasing deals and fixed, vetted equipment and services.
The program that launched in June has drawn interest from nearly 300 households, and due to market shifts, those looking to make the switch to solar now have the added perk of reduced pricing, for instance, with residential solar energy systems over 5kW now at $1.95 per watt and Tesla PowerWall3 battery systems now going for $14,000, a decrease from the initial $14,500. Since the program's inception, community members who committed to solar agreements have purchased over 275 kW in system power, which is tantamount to averting over 573,000 pounds of CO2 emissions every year.
Furthermore, every household entering into a contract has chosen to augment their solar set-up with batteries, amassing a substantial 418.5 kWh in new energy storage capacity, largely spurred by the rebates offered through the Duke Energy PowerPair program. For those considering the initiative, the clock is ticking, with the residential contract deadline on Dec. 31, and for commercial entities, the cut-off is pinned for March 31, 2026.
Installation timelines are in the hands of Renu Energy Solutions, the appointed provider, with an end goal to wrap up all installations by or before April 15, 2026, even as the promotional push winds down the installation queue lengthens as expected due to the high demand, this initiative has seen; meanwhile, those wanting more details or to grab a spot in line should head to SolarizeCharMeck.com.
