The Chicago Police Department is ramping up efforts to crack down on impaired driving in the Jefferson Park area. Announced via the official Chicago Police Department website, a DUI Saturation Patrol will be deployed from Friday, November 28, 2025, starting at 6 p.m., to the early hours of Saturday at 2 a.m., targeting those who pose a threat to the safety of the community with hazardous driving behaviors.
The initiative, which will heavily focus on the 16th (Jefferson Park) District, seeks to put officers on high alert for signs of DUI, while also cracking down on other traffic offenses like speeding and seatbelt violations. The Breath Alcohol Testing (BAT) Mobile Unit might also make an appearance, expediting the process of charging individuals with DUIs right on the spot, preventing further risk and unnecessary delay in processing times.
Previously, a similar patrol initiative in the 20th (Lincoln) District yielded a total of 69 citations issued for various violations, including 24 for speed and 17 for unsafe vehicle conditions, as per the police department's statistics. Despite the variety of infringements recorded, there were zero arrests directly related to DUI, which may reflect either a discouraging finding or a sign of successful deterrence.
The saturation patrol is not only a display of enforcement, but also serves as a warning. Under the watchful eye of patrol officers, equipped with the means to measure a vehicle's speed and conduct breathalyzers on-site, the message is clear: the roads must be kept safe. Moreover, the mobile unit enables officers to issue Individual Recognizance Bonds (I-Bonds) to those charged, creating an efficiency in the system that brings a level of swift accountability to the offending driver.
