It comes off as no shocker that the telemarketing scene has been on a downslide, with average success rates nosediving to a mere 2% in the current climate. What might not be on everyone's radar, though, is a University of Cincinnati alum's bid to shake things up with an innovative AI-driven approach that's amping up the cold-calling game. Matthew Terry, a Bearcat through and through, has engineered Suade—a tool that's turning telemarketers into veritable sales wizards.

Doling out real-time advice, Suade is like having a mentor perched on your shoulder while you're on the clock, except it's not a tiny human but Artificial Intelligence, ready to intervene in tricky call scenarios. After grappling with the grueling sales landscape post his UC graduation in 2020, Terry spun his challenges into Suade's creation in 2021. According to the University of Cincinnati, a report by his alma mater, Terry developed this program from Cincinnati's incubatory soil to bolster cold callers' conversion rates, noting, "I promised myself my next startup would focus on helping sales reps not just learn but execute sales effectively."

Apparently, lingering in the treacherous terrain of cold-calling makes for an uphill battle, with drop-off rates that spell a revolving door of talent for the industry. Training fresh recruits is a time suck, demanding managers to sift through hours of calls. Suade, though, as per Terry's own admission, streamlines this demanding process by flagging issues instantly, which, no surprises here, has turned out to be a win-win for all parties involved—salespeople, companies, and customers.

The brains behind Suade didn't just stumble on instant success—Terry honed his business acumen by tapping into the resources at the 1819 Venture Lab nestled in UC's 1819 Innovation Hub. Touted as a powerhouse for budding entrepreneurs and churning out success stories left, right, and center, the Hub has been instrumental in Suade's climb. Terry leveraged the lab's expert mentorship, scoring key insights into market strategies that spiked the startup's revenue. In a statement he gave to the University of Cincinnati's news outlet, the founder shared, "We’ve brought in thousands more in revenue based on the support and mentorship UC has been able to provide."

It's clear Matthew Terry is scoring more than just brownie points with Suade; he's crafting a robust narrative for Cincinnati's innovation landscape, one successful pitch at a time. As Suade's star climbs, it's a hat-tip to the academic havens fostering the entrepreneurial spirit and transforming the fortunes of those who walk their corridors.
