More than a year after a deadly shooting incident that took place in College Hill, Cincinnati police have made an arrest, authorities disclosed this past Thursday. On Sept. 29, 2024, Bennie Byrd, 40, was found shot dead within his vehicle, which had also crashed in front of a beauty supply store on Winton Road. Per The Cincinnati, the arrest came following extensive police investigations into the year-old case.

Deandre Shannon, 34, was arrested on suspicion of Byrd's murder and is believed to be connected to the events of that fateful night. On the day of the incident, multiple shots were reported fired in the area, and police found Byrd suffering from gunshot wounds inside a vehicle that had subsequently crashed. According to a WLWT report, a white Ford SUV was observed fleeing from the shooting's vicinity shortly after the gunfire erupted.

Compounding this complex case, an earlier report misidentified the accused as Deandre Shannon, which was later corrected by the officials. Police have stated that Shannon is currently detained at the Hamilton County Detention Center, though as of the evening of Oct. 30, bond information was reportedly not available.

The Cincinnati Police Department's Homicide Unit, in cooperation with the CPD Fugitive Apprehension Unit, was integral in facilitating the arrest of Shannon, with the investigation still ongoing.

Authorities continue to seek assistance from the public and are appealing for anyone with pertinent information regarding Byrd's death to come forward. Individuals with information are encouraged to contact the Cincinnati Police Department's homicide unit at 513-352-3542.
