Clarksville residents faced significant disruptions Tuesday morning when an accident completely shut down Fort Campbell Boulevard. According to reports from FOX17, a vehicle collided with the back of a semi-tractor trailer around 6 a.m., leading to extensive closures and a driver being airlifted to Nashville.
The aftermath of the collision was severe, as the driver of the vehicle was not only injured but airlifted for medical attention, as WSMV reported. The specific injuries sustained are yet unknown, but the crash necessitated the presence of Clarksville Police crash investigators at the site, located where Fort Campbell Blvd. intersects with Millswood Drive.
Further details were provided by Clarksville Now, which updated the public on the traffic congestion following the reopening of the highway. As of 9:15 a.m., even though the road was declared open, the flow of vehicles was still slow as traffic had built up significantly in the area surrounding the incident.
Rescue operations began promptly after the vehicle ended up pinned under the trailer's back end – a complex situation that necessitated the extrication of the driver from the wreck. "Crews began extrication at 6:15 a.m. Extrication was complete at 6:28 a.m. and the patient was turned over to EMS for care before being flown to Nashville via Air Evac," as detailed in a report from Clarksville Fire Rescue acquired by Clarksville Now. During the road closure, congestion spread to the 101st Airborne Division Parkway and adjacent roads, complicating the morning commute for many.
The Clarksville Police Department has since encouraged drivers to seek alternate routes following the incident. As of the latest updates, Fort Campbell Boulevard has reopened, but the backlog of traffic may take some time to resolve, as per Clarksville Now.
