Clay County Government announced that Middleburg’s Choctaw Trail will receive a five-foot-wide sidewalk as part of the County’s Community Development Block Grant program. According to the city's release, the project will include ADA ramps and aims to provide safer pedestrian access, encouraging residents to walk rather than drive for local trips. Drivers should expect daytime disruptions, including single-lane closures and lane shifts, while construction is underway.
Similar improvements are planned for the Evergreen Lane area, where a sidewalk project under the Safe Routes to School (SRTS) program will enhance safety for students traveling to and from Doctor's Inlet Elementary School. The project aims to make walking to school safer and more accessible. Motorists should expect occasional lane closures and traffic adjustments when construction begins in December.
Progress continues with plans for a new two-lane road between Radar Road and Town Center Boulevard, set to begin in early 2026. Clay County officials say the project will create a direct link between U.S. 17 and Town Center Boulevard, include bike lanes, and improve drainage, supporting both multimodal travel and effective stormwater management.
Work continues on County Road 209, where extensive widening and reconstruction aim to improve the roadway for increased traffic capacity. Commuters on Russell Road should expect potential delays and weekend work. Nighttime construction, intended to reduce daytime disruption, may bring noise and light impacts to nearby residents.
At the end of this year, significant work is planned for County Road 218, with asphalt paving scheduled throughout this month. Detours may temporarily alter driveways and usual traffic patterns. Drivers are reminded that flaggers are in place to ensure safety as construction progresses.
