A fire in Wilbraham has killed a man and two pets at a home on Delmore Avenue, according to a joint statement from local fire and law enforcement officials. The fire, which started last Friday night, is under investigation to determine its cause.

Firefighters responded to calls around 8:40 p.m. and found heavy flames on the first floor of the two-story home at 3 Delmore Ave. Despite their efforts to extinguish the fire and search the home, the resident was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a press release.

Officials from the Wilbraham Fire Department, Police Chief Edward Lennon, State Fire Marshal Jon M. Davine, and Hampden District Attorney Anthony D. Gulluni said the identity of the deceased will be released after the coroner’s examination. The investigation aims to determine the cause and manner of death, with authorities taking steps to understand the circumstances of the fire.

Firefighters from several neighboring departments helped bring the fire under control in about 30 minutes. A special rehab unit from the Department of Fire Services was on site to support the firefighters, and the DFS Code Compliance & Enforcement Unit is assisting in determining the fire’s origin.

Authorities are asking anyone with information about the fire to come forward. The investigation is ongoing, led by Wilbraham Police, State Police assigned to the State Fire Marshal’s office, and the Hampden District Attorney’s Office. The community continues to mourn the loss and awaits answers.
