The Little Village community in Chicago is grappling with the tragic loss of two local jewelers, a father and son, killed during an attempted robbery at their family-owned store. The incident, which unfolded on November 8 at Angelo's Jewelry located at 3851 W. 26th St, has spurred both sorrow and anger amongst relatives and area residents. According to NBC Chicago, the victims, identified as Faustino Alamo, 63, and Luis Angel Alamo, 25, engaged in a physical altercation with the thieves outside their store, which ultimately led to their fatal shooting.
The Chicago Police Department has since released surveillance photos of two men believed to be involved in this violent crime, in hopes of quickly identifying and apprehending them. The first suspect has been described as a Black man wearing a black North Face hooded jacket, a baseball cap with a brown brim, glasses, black cargo pants, and gray sneakers. His accomplice was seen wearing a tan bucket hat, a Chicago Blackhawks jersey, tan pants, and black shoes. "We are destroyed and infuriated that our city leaders have allowed this issue to get this bad," a relative of the deceased told NBC Chicago in an interview.
A service was held on Sunday, where friends and family gathered to mourn and remember the Alamos. The family was well-known in the area, having previously operated a successful jewelry shop in the west suburban Cicero before moving to Little Village. The community's grief is palpable, with many recalling the Alamos as being "a united family," always dependent on one another for support and camaraderie.
The police continue to seek public assistance in locating the suspects. Anyone with information can contact the Chicago police at 312-746-8252 or call 911. In addition, Cook County Crime Stoppers and community activists have pooled together a $20,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in this case. The Alamo family had believed in the American dream, diligently working to establish their business from the ground up—only to have it shattered by an act of ruthless violence. Surveillance footage captured the fatal encounter outside their store, as detailed by CBS News Chicago, which proved to be the last moments of an attempt to protect their livelihood.
